CUSTOM CAMERAS COMPANY PROFILE

Custom Cameras was founded in 1981 by three engineers with extensive experience in the design of specialised industrial television systems. We have produced camera systems for customers such as Rolls Royce, BNFL, British Aerospace, DERA, UKAEA, AEA Technology, British Steel, Nukem Nuclear, Scottish Energy and many other customers who are concerned particularly with quality and reliability. Our systems have been supplied to the USA, Europe and Japan.

Most of our products have grown out of particular customer requirements, many having been specially developed for demanding applications.

Products we have developed include cameras to withstand high levels of nuclear radiation, cameras to operate in hostile environments including extremes of temperature and underwater, and low light cameras for use in scientific applications such as satellite tracking and viewing electron backscatter patterns from crystal samples in electron microscopes. Direct X ray imaging, UV and IR sensitive cameras have also been produced.

Other items include peripherals such as Pan and Tilt units, lighting units, special optical designs, video switchers and multi-camera selection systems with remote selection and control from multiple control stations.

Our control system using pulses multiplexed and superimposed on the video signal, combined with balanced pair video drive, greatly simplifies both cabling requirements and control arrangements. At its simplest, a 4 core cable with 2 conductors for DC supply and 2 for balanced video is all that is required for total control of each camera system.

All electrical and mechanical design is carried out by our staff on our own premises, and we have facilities for the manufacture of prototypes, including CNC machines and highly skilled mechanical, wiring and board assembly personnel, enabling us to respond rapidly to “one-off” customer requirements.

Our staff, a large proportion of whom have been trained by ourselves, are encouraged to be innovative and quality conscious; we are a friendly organisation and enjoy very good staff relations, resulting in high levels of job satisfaction and enthusiastic co-operation at all levels.
